Rev Sylvia Vasquez
Rev. Sylvia was born and raised in San Antonio, Texas and has a large extended family of about 300, most of whom live in the San Antonio area. She attended Oblate School of Theology and received a Master in Theological Studies (MTS) in 1991. After being received into the Episcopal Church in 1990, she attended Seminary of the Southwest and graduated with a Master of Divinity (MDiv) in 1995. After seminary, her first call was as Associate Rector here at St. Paul’s during the rectorship of the Rev. Art Bevins. She served in the Diocese of West Texas for several years and then was called to Trinity Church in Wilmington, DE and was subsequently called to the Diocese of New York as Canon for Congregational Development. She served in EDNY for four years and then in 2006, she was called as rector at St. Paul’s in Walnut Creek, California. She was the first woman rector at the parish and the first clergy of color at that parish as well. Sylvia retired in 2017 after 22 years in full time ministry and is currently serving as non stipendiary assistant clergy in our parish. Her primary ministry at St. Paul’s is working with the parish Social Justice Committee.
