Holy Cross Day
September 14 @ 6:30 pm - 7:30 pm
An event every year that begins at 6:30pm on day 14 of September, repeating indefinitely
Holy Cross Day will be observed with a celebration of the Holy Eucharist at 6:30pm on Friday, September 14th in honor of Christ’s self-offering on the cross for our salvation. The collect for Holy Cross Day recalls that Christ “was lifted high upon the cross that he might draw the whole world unto himself,” and prays that “we, who glory in the mystery of our redemption, may have grace to take up our cross and follow him” (BCP, p. 192). The themes of Holy Cross Day are powerfully expressed by the hymn “Lift high the cross” (Hymn 473).
In an effort to embrace our catholic witness, St. Paul’s has committed to observe all Principle Feasts, Other Feasts of Our Lord, as well as Marian Feasts (BCP 15-16). This is an acknowledgment that the liturgy is not just something we do on Sundays, but a sacramental vision that leads to personal transformation in all areas of our lives.
