July 10 @ 7:00 pm - 8:30 pm
An event every month that begins at 7:00pm on day Second of the month, repeating until October 9, 2018
St. Paul’s Book Club is an informal gathering of people who enjoy reading fiction. Parishioners, their friends and all interested individuals have always been invited to join the discussion of issues raised in the each year’s selected novels. No one “reviews” the novels. Everyone arrives with their own opinions to share—or not. All may speak, but none must. If you haven’t finished the book, come join us—we don’t guilt-trip anyone and welcome your impressions.
Upcoming Book Selections for our 2017-2018 group include:
4/10 The Winter of Our Discontent, by John Steinbeck [Nobel Laureate, 1962]
5/8 Defending Jacob, by William Landay
The reading list is comprised of recent novels along with an occasional twentieth-century classic. Book selections each year include texts that make us travel in time and in space. When we meet, our purpose is to reflect on the world and the characters we have come to know, not to offer “literary criticism” or a “book review.” Every meeting closes with a brief discussion of parish prayer concerns and a Prayer Book collect to keep us mindful of our common life as followers of Jesus.
