This year Sylvia Maddox will be our forum conductor. Sylvia is an experienced retreat and workshop leader in the areas of prayer and spirituality. She has served as a missionary journeyman in Indonesia and has worked in a variety of cross-cultural and ecumenical settings. Sylvia teaches in the Religious Studies Department of The University of the Incarnate Word. With The Rev. Mary Earle, she co-authored Holy Companions. Spiritual Practices from the Celtic Saints.
No matter how deep our desire to follow Christ, we are all susceptible to our culture, our personalities, and the unforeseen circumstances of life. We need a framework of spiritual discipline and practices—a “rule of life”—that will hold us together and give balance when the way is dark and unknown.
This Lenten forum will offer an open space of prayer and reflection on how we can live our faith in the push and pull of ordinary life. In the discernment of our own core values, disciplines, and spiritual longings, we will begin to discover the freedom that comes from finding a holy trellis of vocation and direction.
